“Wild Nights”
Wild nights – Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!
Futile – the winds – to a Heart in port –
Done with the Compass – Done with the Chart!
Rowing in Eden – Ah – the Sea!
Might I but moor – tonight – In thee!
by Emily Dickinson
Couple sexuality can be the most divine, yet at times, problematic aspect of a romantic relationship. When it’s going well it is a positive, integral part of being a couple. Research shows it adds to its vitality and satisfaction by around twenty percent and serves to reinforce and deepen intimacy, create shared pleasure and reduce tension. However, when sex is non-existent, or sexuality dysfunctional, it plays an immense role in robbing a relationship of its strength and intimacy.
Deborah uses an integrative approach when working with your sexuality concerns. The aim of the therapeutic session is to identify unhelpful relational and sexual patterns and use relationship counselling strategies, behavioural techniques and psycho-education to create change. The goal is for you to overcome your sexual concerns by renewing intimacy and finding ways to express your sexuality in a way that enhances your relationship and your life. You are encouraged to work as an intimate team.
Issues can be primary, in which they exist from the beginning of a relationship, or secondary and associated with other psychological or relational factors. The most common reasons couples seek therapy for sexuality concerns include –
- sexual desire discrepancy (differences & low libido)
- non-orgasmic response
- erectile unpredictability (erectile dysfunction)
- early ejaculation (premature ejaculation)
- painful intercourse (for women, vaginismus)
- delayed ejaculation (ejaculatory inhibition)
- problematic pornography use
These issues are sensitive, and often difficult to discuss. Deborah provides a confidential and non-judgmental environment allowing you to feel safe to be candid in having these discussions.
